My brother has been away for a while and the first thing he wanted when he got back was food.
Although he had food where he was, he missed my mother's cooking.
I know you're probably thinking, well duh. Everyone misses their mother's cooking. But him missing my mother's cooking wasn't the interesting part, him not having the taste for any of his old favorite restaurants was.
After about the first week, I expected him to want to go out to eat or something. He's been here for about a month, and hasn't mentioned eating out once. I can't even recall him eating fast food, even when other people were. He'd just fix him a sandwich or something.
I guess the root of the situation is that people take cooking and eating at home for granted. Whether people know it or not, it's an opportunity to create memories.
