The Recession, Terrorists, and Home Kitchens

Afraid? You should be.

Actually, no you shouldn't.

So, I was reading this article called Can Home Cooking Be Hazardous and it said that most home kitchens would fail a restaurant inspection. More specifically, they said only 61% of people would make an A or B. The problem with the total is that they haven't actually done inspections in homes, but got their numbers from online surveys. They believe the only people actually taking the surveys are people that care about their kitchens, which is why the passing percentage is so high. Most others wouldn't even bother taking the survey.

Just because home kitchens aren't as clean as restaurant kitchens doesn't necessarily mean that the food produced in restaurants is healthier than food prepared at home. Or does it? The cleanliness of a kitchen doesn't make the fats and oils and other unhealthy things any less unhealthy. It seems like an attempt to convince people that eating out isn't as bad as "health people" say it is. I understand trying to repair a bad reputation, but going as far as scaring people into not cooking at all because their kitchens aren't clean? Come on. It's not that serious.
