So I finally signed up for Google Alerts and so far I've only received two alerts relating to my tags: diabetes and diseases caused by poor dietary choices. Which leads me to beleive that I should broaden my topics. Nonetheless both of the articles were about teenage obsesity, which was entertaining if nothing else. Apparently schools actually have vending machines! Vending machines that contain food and not just water and Gaterade. But of course the food isn't healthy and headlines are blaming America's teenage obsesity rise on the schools' vending machines and not the actually fatties who spend their allowances in them. It's classic hustling. The man teases us with all these shiny wrappers that promise satisfaction, when in reality all you get is a new pants size, while the government rakes in the dough.
Also something that's spiked my interest this week - my friend is a vegetarian and so on Labor Day we ate soy burgers. Can your body really receive as much protein from such low sustinance imitations as it would by just directly eating meat? "Studies have shown that vegetarians enjoy a lower rate of obesity, heart diseases, some cancer type, sugar diabetes and longer lifespan.... The only downside is that you have to learn how to balance your nutrition so that your body will get all the nutrients it needs daily. If not you can get some pretty nasty side effect because you eat too much of some nutrients and too less of other nutrients." -EzineArticles.com
So there may not be a list of colorful diseases from not eating meat, but there are obviously some consequences.
