Diabetes Discussion

This past weekend some of my family came over. I have already told my aunt about this project but I haven’t actually sat down and asked her any questions yet. We were eating ribs, beans, and mashed potatoes. I heard my aunt ask my mom if she had remembered to buy some ingredients for salad. At dinner, I asked her if there was any significant reason as to why she was eating a salad along with the rest of the food. She told me that she needed to make sure she ate something that was a good supply of nutrients. This brought up the discussion about what type of diabetes she had and what she has to do each day because of it. Apparently, she has type 1 diabetes and she has to take a shot of insulin in the morning and in the evening. It surprised me that she had type 1 diabetes because in my research, type 1 is the less common of the two types. This was about all we talked about at dinner but it should be interesting to find out how she disciplined herself enough to constantly remember when to take her shots and also what she should and shouldn’t eat
